Growing a Legacy of Quality Plants Since 1959

At TN Nursery, we believe that every landscape has the potential to become something beautiful, meaningful, and full of life. Whether it is a backyard garden, a shaded woodland corner, a pollinator-friendly landscape, or a large-scale restoration project, the right plants can help bring outdoor spaces to life.

Founded in Tennessee in 1959, TN Nursery is a family-owned plant nursery built on generations of hands-on growing experience and a lasting passion for horticulture. What began as a small family business has grown into a trusted online destination for trees, shrubs, ferns, perennials, native plants, and a wide variety of landscaping essentials.

Although our business has expanded over the decades, our commitment remains the same: to provide quality plants, dependable service, and practical choices that help customers create thriving landscapes.

Our Family Story

The roots of TN Nursery go back to Roscoe Tate, who established Mountain Ornamental Nursery in Altamont, Tennessee, in 1959. His love of the outdoors and extensive experience with native plants helped lay the foundation for a family tradition centered on growing, caring for, and understanding plants.

That knowledge and dedication were passed down through the generations. In 1994, Tammy and her husband, Dennis, established TN Nursery on a small farm, building on the experience and values they had learned from their family. Through hard work, careful cultivation, and a commitment to serving customers, the business continued to grow.

Today, TN Nursery remains family-owned and operated, with three generations contributing to its continued development. Our history is more than a timeline of business growth; it represents decades of learning, adapting, and sharing a love of plants with gardeners and landscape professionals across the United States.

A Wide Selection of Plants for Every Landscape

We understand that every outdoor space has different requirements. Soil conditions, sunlight, moisture, climate, and the intended purpose of a planting project all influence which plants will thrive. That is why TN Nursery offers a broad selection of plant varieties to support different gardening styles and landscape goals.

Our product collections include native trees, ornamental trees, shrubs, flowering perennials, ferns, wildflowers, vines, groundcovers, wetland plants, and other landscaping varieties.

Whether you are looking to add shade trees, create natural borders, establish a woodland garden, attract pollinators, or introduce seasonal color, our collections provide options to explore. We also offer bare-root plants for customers who prefer this practical planting format during the appropriate growing season.

From individual home gardeners to landscapers and larger planting projects, TN Nursery aims to make finding suitable plants more convenient through our online catalog.

Our Passion for Native Plants

Native plants are an important part of our approach to horticulture. These plants have developed in particular regions over time and can play valuable roles in local landscapes and ecosystems when matched with suitable growing conditions.

Incorporating native trees, shrubs, wildflowers, and other plants into a landscape can help create habitats for pollinators and wildlife while bringing a natural sense of place to gardens and outdoor spaces.

At TN Nursery, we offer a variety of native plant options for customers interested in pollinator gardens, woodland landscapes, erosion-control projects, wetland planting, and naturalized outdoor environments.

We recognize that successful planting begins with choosing plants suited to the local climate and site conditions. By offering diverse selections, we aim to help customers explore practical ways to create landscapes that are attractive, functional, and supportive of nature.

Quality from Growing to Shipping

We know that receiving healthy plants is an important part of a successful gardening experience. Our work involves more than offering a wide selection; it also requires careful attention to how plants are grown, prepared, handled, and shipped.

TN Nursery combines hands-on horticultural experience with established growing and packing practices to help plants arrive ready for their next stage of growth. For bare-root plants, proper preparation and moisture-conscious packaging are especially important during transportation.

Because plants are living products, their appearance can change with the seasons. Some varieties naturally enter dormancy during colder months, while others may look different depending on their growth cycle. Understanding these seasonal characteristics helps customers make informed decisions when ordering plants online.

Our goal is to provide clear product information and a dependable purchasing experience so customers can plan their planting projects with greater confidence.

Supporting Gardeners and Landscape Professionals

TN Nursery serves customers with a wide range of experience and project sizes. Some are planting their first garden, while others are experienced gardeners, landscapers, growers, or professionals working on larger outdoor spaces.

We aim to support these different needs with a broad product catalog and convenient online ordering. Customers can explore plant varieties for shade, privacy, flowering displays, ground coverage, wildlife gardens, and other landscape applications.

For larger projects, our plant selections can also support bulk purchasing and wholesale inquiries. We understand that projects involving many plants require careful planning, suitable varieties, and attention to quantity and growing conditions.

Whatever the scale of the project, we believe that access to appropriate plant choices is an important first step toward creating a successful landscape.

Helping Customers Grow with Confidence

Gardening is a continuous process of learning. Each planting environment presents different conditions, and even experienced gardeners encounter new questions as seasons change.

We believe that useful information is an essential part of the plant-buying experience. Through our online resources and gardening articles, we share information about plant characteristics, growing conditions, planting methods, and seasonal care.

We encourage customers to consider their local growing zone, available sunlight, soil moisture, and mature plant size when selecting products. These factors can make a meaningful difference in how plants establish and develop over time.

Our aim is to help customers make thoughtful selections and feel better prepared to care for their plants after delivery.

Our Commitment to Service and Growth

At TN Nursery, we value the relationships built through generations of serving customers. Reliability, hard work, and a genuine interest in plants continue to guide the way we approach our business.

We recognize that every order represents a project, a plan, or a personal vision for an outdoor space. By continually developing our selection, refining our processes, and sharing practical horticultural information, we work to make the experience of purchasing plants online more straightforward and rewarding.

As we look to the future, we remain committed to preserving our family heritage while adapting to the changing needs of gardeners, homeowners, and landscape professionals.
