Our story began in 2019 on the shores of Esperance, Western Australia, when founder Danny Smyth, a high school teacher and passionate surfer, became frustrated by how difficult it was to find clear information and reliable products for painting surfboards. Conflicting advice, inconsistent paint quality, and confusing processes made something creative feel unnecessarily complicated. That challenge sparked the idea behind Surfpaints — a brand built to simplify surfboard art and help creators confidently bring their ideas to life.

After years of testing different acrylic formulas, materials, and application methods, Surfpaints developed a premium Japanese-crafted acrylic paint pen designed to deliver smooth coverage, vibrant colours, weather resistance, and long-lasting durability on multiple surfaces. Our products were originally engineered for fibreglass surfboards, but creators quickly discovered they also worked beautifully on skateboards, helmets, shoes, canvas, wood, glass, metal, rocks, murals, and countless DIY projects.
