Our Story

Hoffman Academy began in 2007 as a small piano studio in Portland, Oregon, founded by master piano educator Joseph Hoffman. After years of teaching, Mr. Hoffman realized that many traditional piano methods either focused too heavily on reading music or relied too much on playing by ear. He envisioned a more complete approach that would help students become confident, well-rounded musicians.

This vision led to the creation of the Hoffman Method—a unique teaching system that combines ear training, music theory, creativity, sight reading, improvisation, and performance skills into one comprehensive learning experience. What started with a handful of local students has grown into a global online music education platform serving learners in more than 115 countries.

The Hoffman Method
