At Folkcraft Instruments, we believe that music is best experienced through instruments crafted with passion, tradition, and uncompromising quality. Since 1968, we have been dedicated to building heirloom-quality folk instruments that inspire musicians of every skill level to create music that lasts a lifetime.
Our Story
Folkcraft began with a simple vision: to handcraft exceptional instruments using traditional woodworking techniques and premium solid woods. More than five decades later, that vision remains unchanged.
As a family-owned business, every instrument is carefully handcrafted in the United States, one at a time—not on an assembly line. Our small team of skilled artisans pours experience, precision, and passion into every build, ensuring that each instrument delivers the tone, craftsmanship, and character musicians have come to expect from Folkcraft.
Our Mission
Our mission is to preserve the rich tradition of handcrafted folk instruments while inspiring musicians to create meaningful music for generations to come.
We are committed to:
- Handcrafting premium instruments with exceptional attention to detail.
- Using carefully selected solid hardwoods for outstanding tone and durability.
- Supporting musicians with outstanding customer service and expert craftsmanship.
- Preserving American instrument-making traditions through every instrument we build.
What Makes Folkcraft Different?
Handmade in the USA
Every Folkcraft instrument is proudly handcrafted in America using time-honored techniques that have been refined since 1968. Each instrument is individually built rather than mass-produced, giving it its own unique character and voice.
Built to Last a Lifetime
We use premium solid woods—not plywood—to create instruments known for their rich acoustic tone, structural integrity, and lasting beauty.
Crafted by Musicians, for Musicians
Our team understands what players expect from a quality instrument. From careful wood selection to final setup and inspection, every detail is designed to provide an exceptional playing experience.
More Than Instruments
In addition to handcrafted mountain dulcimers, we offer ukuleles, instrument kits, accessories, replacement strings, custom cases, instructional books, and repair services to support musicians throughout their musical journey.

We believe quality comes from patience, skill, and attention to every detail.
Tradition
We honor the heritage of American folk music while continuing to refine our craft.
