Rethinking Fashion Waste

At FABSCRAP, we believe that creativity and sustainability should go hand in hand. Our mission is to end commercial textile waste by providing an easy and convenient way for the fashion industry to recycle, reuse, and repurpose excess materials. Through education, community engagement, and innovative recycling solutions, we are working toward a future where no fabric goes to waste.

Our Story

FABSCRAP was founded in 2016 by Jessica Schreiber, a former employee of the New York City Department of Sanitation, after recognizing a major problem within the fashion industry: millions of pounds of usable textiles were being discarded every year.

Determined to create a better solution, she launched FABSCRAP to help fashion brands responsibly manage their excess fabric while making these valuable materials available to artists, designers, students, and makers.

What started as a local initiative in New York City has grown into a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing textile waste and promoting circularity within the fashion industry.

What We Do

FABSCRAP provides convenient and accessible services that help businesses divert unwanted textiles from landfills.

Our work includes:

  • Textile Collection and Recycling
  • Fabric Reuse and Resale
  • Material Recovery Programs
  • Sustainability Education
  • Volunteer Opportunities
  • Community Outreach and Advocacy

Every piece of fabric we collect is carefully sorted and either reused, recycled, or responsibly processed to maximize its value and minimize environmental impact.

Building a Circular Fashion Economy

At FABSCRAP, we envision a world where textiles are treated as valuable resources rather than disposable waste.

By connecting fashion brands, designers, artists, students, and sustainability advocates, we are helping create a circular system where materials can have a second life and continue inspiring creativity.

Our Philosophy

We believe that:

Waste is a Design Problem

Many discarded materials still have tremendous value and potential.

Sustainability Requires Collaboration

Meaningful change happens when industries and communities work together.

Education Drives Impact

The more people understand textile waste, the more opportunities there are to create solutions.

Every Fabric Deserves a Second Chance

Reusing and recycling materials can significantly reduce environmental impact.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple:

To maximize the value of unused fabric while minimizing the environmental impact of the fashion industry.

We are committed to:

  • Diverting textiles from landfills
  • Supporting circular fashion initiatives
  • Educating communities about sustainability
  • Making materials accessible to creators and makers
  • Building innovative solutions for the future of fashion.

More Than a Nonprofit

FABSCRAP is more than an organization—it's a growing community of fashion brands, volunteers, designers, artists, and environmental advocates who believe in creating a more sustainable future.

Together, we are proving that small actions can lead to meaningful change and that discarded materials can become the foundation for new ideas and creations.

Looking Ahead

As we continue to grow, our commitment remains the same: to transform the way the fashion industry thinks about waste and to create a world where textiles are continuously reused, recycled, and appreciated.

Thank you for supporting our mission and becoming part of the FABSCRAP community.
